The integration of the actors of the health sector

The challenge of health in Latin America continues to occupy a prominent place on the agenda of all governments, more and more, the vision of having a coordinated and integrated system becomes a central need, collaboration with the private sector is now also imperative and attacking rising out-of-pocket spending is an urgent call.

Much has been discussed about how to attack the fragmentation of the system and whether the health care model, from prevention to hospitalization and treatment, must undergo a root change or the solution is based on the use of new management tools and technological innovation. .

In a recent conference Jaime Cater Gutiérrez, President of Estructuras de Información S.C. (EDI), addressed the issue under a vision that evaluates in detail the possibility of integrating the Public Sector and the Private Health Sector under a scheme of collaboration and exchange of services that guarantees not only the continued care of the patient, the control of spending and care at the three levels of care, but also define indicators that impact and measure the results on the population.

“As we know, there are various models and regional integration efforts in other countries, programs such as the famous ACOs (for its acronym in English) that seek to deliver results and impact population health in a measurable and systematic way, but it is essential to find a Latin American model urgently” mentions Cater in his presentation.

Today, new forms of cooperation between public and private, between prevention programs, between financiers and health providers are being discussed in various forums. It is time to act and finally change to a more equitable model that provides the much-needed coverage. Countries, the pandemic left us great lessons.
